Marvel’s first family is about to hit a milestone, as Fantastic Four #7 will be the 700th issue of the popular ongoing series, and Marvel Comics is celebrating in style. In connecting variant covers by artist Skott Koblish (Deadpool), featuring the more than 700 characters who have appeared throughout the history of the Fantastic Four. The incredible image from Koblish is massive in scope and has to be seen to be believed.
The Fantastic Four are among the most important superteams in Marvel Comics' history, as the debut issue of Fantastic Four #1 by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee showed what was possible with the genre. Starring Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm, the group is transformed after being exposed to cosmic rays in space, turning them into superpowered heroes. Over the years, the Fantastic Four have faced off against some of the greatest threats ranging from Galactus, Doctor Doom, and Annihilus - with the publisher continuing the team's adventures more than 60 years after their first comic appearance. In amazing new connecting variants from artist Scott Koblish, the history of the FF is weaved through two unique covers.
Koblish’s wraparound cover for Fantastic Four #7 and #8 by Ryan North and Iban Coello, and Ivan Fiorelli, features the many faces, big and small, the four heroes have encountered over the last six decades. From Earth-based heroes and villains like Captain America and Titania, to mystical threats like Mephisto, to cosmic threats such as Galactus, the Super-Skrull, the Celestials, and Eternity, no characters are seemingly missed in the staggeringly impressive artwork. Koblish said in a press release that he’s long been a fan of the Fantastic Four, and it was a “dream come true” for him to go through Marvel’s first family’s history and create a vast piece honoring their adventures.
I hope I was able to convey all of the sheer joy, wonder, and boundless creativity that the Fantastic Four have embodied for six decades and I hope it continues to be a shining beacon for decades to come.
