Kevin Smith Expands Askewniverse with 'Quick Stops' Comic Series!

Kevin Smith’s iconic Askewniverse is getting a brand-new Quick Stops sequel series, which will further explore some of his classic comedies in comic book form, including more stories in the world of Jay and Silent Bob. Smith, who is best known for directing Clerks and its sequels, Chasing Amy, Mallrats, Dogma, and multiple Jay and Silent Bob films, is once against taking his beloved source material and putting in a new anthology that will expand on some of his greatest characters and plots.
The original Quick Stops series by Smith featured new tales focused on the main characters of Clerks. The setting was based on the exact location the original movie was filmed back in 1984. The first Quick Stops four-issue miniseries features cameos including Gill Hicks from Mallrats, Jim Hicks from Chasing Amy, and Grant Hicks from Dogma. The new comic book series will explore the history of the fast food chain Mooby’s and a podcaster's attempt to learn the truth behind how it came to be.
Andrew Thomas, who previously worked on CaptCan Comics exclusive cover for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, is doing a new cover for Quick Stops 2 #1. The artwork is a parody of the classic Vision cover from his first appearance in Avengers #57 by John Buscema and George Klein. Instead of the Marvel android standing giant-sized above the smoke, Mooby takes his place. The artwork is designed to look tattered with the throwback cover making Mooby a larger-than-life figure. We spoke with Thomas about his passion for Kevin Smith’s work and how he instantly hit it off with the talented writer and director.
I've been a Kevin Smith fan since his "Fatman on Batman" days, but when the pandemic hit, I dove deep into his world. I watched his movies, read his books, and even joined his fan club. He slowly became a spiritual mentor for me, and when he announced he was writing new comics under his new imprint at Dark Horse, Secret Stash Press, I just knew I wanted to work with him in one way or another. I finally met Kevin in person at the Calgary Expo, where he offered me a lettering gig right on the spot, followed shortly after by an offer to draw the exclusive Secret Stash cover for Quick Stops #1. I've been on cloud nine ever since. I've had so many wonderful experiences with Kevin in such a short amount of time, and now, thanks to Captcan, I'm about to embark on another. Here's to you boys!
Thomas isn’t the only artist drawing an homage cover for the series, as the main cover from Nate Gonzalez gives Mooby his very own Watchmen parody. Chorgin’s variant cover features Mooby proclaiming he will reveal his secret origin to readers, with other animal characters, including Pat-Pat and Little Eddy, appearing in the image.
