Marvel Celebrates 35 Years of Venom with a Summer of Symbiotes!

Marvel Comics is celebrating the 35th anniversary of Venom’s debut, as the publisher is about to kick off a “Summer of Symbiotes,” which will commemorate the fan-favorite antihero/villain and shine a spotlight on symbiote characters from across the universe. In Extreme Venomverse #1, The Venom symbiotes will be getting their own Spider-Verse treatment, as several versions of characters will appear, including new versions of Venom, who will make their first appearance in the miniseries.
Venom was created by David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane, with the symbiote villain first appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man before starring in his own Lethal Protector miniseries. Originally an alien symbiote Peter Parker brought back to Earth following the events of Secret Wars, the symbiote would bond with Spider-Man before merging with Eddie Brock and creating one of the web-slinger’s greatest foes, Venom. While Venom was initially portrayed as a villain, the character evolved into an antihero while continuing his violent methods. Several people in the Marvel Universe have been infected with the Venom symbiote, including Mac Gargan, Flash Thompson, and the current host, Dylan Brock. Now, Marvel is kicking off a new Venom-themed event that takes readers into the Extreme Venomverse like never before.
Extreme Venomverse #1 will feature several creative teams tackling different Venom stories set in the Marvel Multiverse. Ryan North and Paulo Siqueira are teaming-up to tell a story starring Eddie Brock as Spider-Man. Meanwhile, Mirka Adolfo is doing a new take on the Brock family in her story, while Leonardo Romero is tackling a story introducing a new Samurai Venom. EXTREME VENOMVERSE will take fans to uncharted corners of the hive in brand-new stories by an all-star lineup of talent! In the same spirit as the recent hit series, Edge of Spider-Verse, this landmark new series will feature jaw-dropping turning points for iconic characters like Eddie Brock and Dylan Brock and see never-before-seen Venoms bear their fangs for the very first time! But this thrilling tour through the Marvel multiverse is headed towards an explosive destination and whether your favorite new symbiotes will survive this summertime saga remains to be seen…
Marvel also revealed new details for Extreme Venomverse #2, which will see Al Ewing and Vincenzo Carratu introducing a new version of Black Cat, who gains the Venom symbiote. Clay McLeod Chapman and Paul Davidson will return to Marvel 1602 to introduce a new Venom, described as “the creepiest Venom ever.” Lastly, David Pepose and Ken Lashley will debut L.M.V., aka Life-Model Venom, a new cyborg Spider-Man. The Venomverse takeover will begin in May, with Extreme Venomverse #1 arriving at CaptCan Comics on May 5th. Extreme Venomverse #2 releases later that month, with the second issue of the five-part miniseries dropping on May 24th. Keep an eye on CaptCan Comics website for pre-order details!
