Marvel Celebrates 50 Years of Wolverine with Iconic Variants

To celebrate 50 years of Wolverine in the pages of Marvel Comics, the publisher will release new Wolverine Wolverine Wolverine variants, placing the clawed hero in some of the most iconic cover art of all time.
Wolverine made his first appearance in The Hulk #181 by writer Len Wein, penciler Herb Trimpe, inker Jack Abel, colorist Glynis Wein, letterer Artie Simek, where he took on the Jade Giant in a legendary battle between the rage-filled heroes. Over the years, Wolverine would become one of the most prominent faces of the X-Men and one of Marvel’s most popular heroes overall. For the mutant hero’s 50th anniversary, Marvel Comics will launch a new series, reprint classic adventures, and have a series of new variants placing Wolverine in classic Marvel moments.

Wolverine takes over George Perez’s iconic cover for the Infinity Gauntlet Saga. The Todd Nauck variant showcases Logan’s history and will appear on Avengers Inc. #5, on sale January 31st, 2024.
Jim Rugg’s cover features Wolverine’s most iconic looks in an homage to Jack Kirby’s cover for X-Men #1. The variant will appear on Captain America #5, on sale on January 3rd, 2024.
David Baldeon’s variant for Spider-Boy #3 puts Wolverine on a cover in the style of Todd McFarlane’s Amazing Spider-Man #300, with his classic sound effect “Snikt” making up the background. The issue is on sale on January 31st, 2024.
Wolverine takes the place of Spider-Man in Betsy Cola’s homage to The Amazing Spider-Man #50, on sale on January 24th on Superior Spider-Man #3.
Pete Woods’ Wolverine Wolverine Wolverine features the android version of the hero Albert taking the place of Vision, an homage to the Avengers first appearance in Avenger #57. The cover will appear on Avengers #9, out on January 10th.
Clayton Crain homages his patriotic cover first seen on Carnage U.S.A., with Wolverine holding the Canadian flag while wearing his X-Force costume. The cover art will appear on Wolverine #41, on sale January 10th. Check out Crain’s cover below.
