For readers looking for more insight into the sinister history of Jabba the Hutt, Marvel Comics is about to dive into a brand-new one-shot spotlighting the glutinous Tattooine crime lord. In Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - Jabba’s Place by Marc Guggenheim and Alessandro Miracolo, the story follows Jabba’s last protocol droid, Eightyem, as he recounts his time as his working as his interpreter. Unfortunately, however, fans hoping for a happy ending for Eightyem aren’t in luck.
Amid the war between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, Jabba the Hutt solidified himself as a significant player in criminal enterprise across the galaxy. Operating in his palace in the Outer Rim on Tattooine, Hutt leads a large group of criminals and bounty hunters. Famously, in Return of the Jedi, Hutt placed a bounty on Han Solo, leading to Boba Fett tracking the hero down and placing him in carbonite. Jabba would meet his end after being killed by Princess Leia, who strangled him with the chains he kept her in after breaking free from being his slave.
In Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - Jabba’s Place, C3PO will learn the truth about the droid who preceded him as the interpreter for Jabba the Hutt. The one-shot will focus on Eightyem, who served as a translator for the disgusting creature and never found fulfillment in the position. However, when Silvan Kaan, a Twi’lek, enters the palace and offers the droid a chance to remove his restraining bolt in order for helping him with three mysterious favors. For the droid, who has longed to leave Jabba’s side. The text solicitation teases Silvan Kaan’s potential attempts at overthrowing Jabba the Hutt.
WHO IS PLOTTING TO OVERTHROW JABBA THE HUTT? Jabba's palace is one of many places to find the vilest of scum and villainy relaxing, wet their whistles and indulge their vices…who would ever want that to end?
