Red Sonja: Unmasking Hyboria's Darkness in New Series

Red Sonja is one of the most iconic and recognizable characters in the Dynamite Comics roster, with the red-headed, sword-wielding hero quickly rising up the ranks of fan-favorite heroes after debuting in Conan the Barbarian by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith back in 1973. The character has a storied history with both Marvel Comics and Dynamite, with the latter getting ready to introduce a new chapter for the character.
After acquiring the rights to Red Sonja in 2005, Dynamite Comics has consistently published ongoing and limited series, one-shots, and more comic adventures of the She-Devil with a Sword. Some of the most iconic creators in comics from Ron Marz (Red Sonja Goes East), Frank Cho (Savage Red Sonja: Queen of the Frozen Wastes), Rick Remender (Red Sonja: Vacant Shell), Gail Simone (Legends of Red Sonja), and Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner (The Invincible Red Sonja), have done memorable runs of all different sizes starring Red Sonja. Now, Dynamite Comics is launching a new series with an all-star creative team and several fan-favorite artists doing variant covers.
Spinning out of the events of Free Comic Book Day: Red Sonja She-Devil with a Sword, Torrun Grobbekk (fresh off of concluding Marvel’s most recent Thor ongoing series), Walter Geovani (who has extensive experience in the world of Red Sonja) and Omi Remalante Jr. will tackle the newest arc for the hero. In Red Sonja #1, the new comic will explore the darker sides of Hyboria. Check out the text synopsis for the issue below.
Following directly from the pages of Red Sonja #0, the She-Devil finds herself on the run, framed for murder, and with an unseen force tugging at the back of her mind. Join Sonja as she races to unravel the mystery of "His Master's Voice!" Written By Torunn Gronbekk and featuring art by Red Sonja superstar Walter Geovani (with colors by Omi Remalante, Jr.), this brand-new series dives deep into Sonja's world, exploring the darkness of Hyboria like never before. And all this is wrapped up in an amazing series of covers: Shannon Maer, Jimmy Cheung, Alan Quah, Bryan Hitch, Joanie Brosas (Cosplay), Jenny Frison, and MANY more - including the Dynamite Debut of Bjorn Barends!
The new series features a murderers row of artists doing covers for Red Sonja #1. Shannon Maher draws the main cover featuring Red Sonja holding a bloody sword while ready for action. Her art will also be available as an Ashcan, a 1:100 virgin variant, and a 1:200 foil variant). Carla Cohen draws a sultry image of Red Sonja, with the variant available in black and white. The issue features several superstar artists doing variants, including Jenny Frison, Kevin Eastman (available as a 1:30 line art virgin variant), and Mike Mignola (his cover is also a 1:30 line art variant, 1:50 virgin, and 1:100 virgin foil variant), all bringing their distinct style to the series. Jim Cheung’s variant featuring Red Sonja in battle surrounded by skulls is available as a standard cover, a 1:50 virgin foil variant, and a 1:75 virgin variant). Additionally, there is a cosplay variant with several cover variations available. With over 50 different covers made for the issue, there’s almost guaranteed to be something worth picking up for the various fans of Red Sonja.
