Something is Killing The Children is officially coming to Netflix. The streaming service announced the critically acclaimed BOOM! Studios' horror comic series from James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera will be getting a live-action adaptation from the people behind Dark and 1899. For both fans of the comic and those wanting to see Netflix adapt deserving IPs, the news is wonderful, as SiKTC is positioned to be a potential major hit for them.
Something is Killing the Children debuted in 2019, as the comic book told the story of missing children in a small town. After learning horrifying monsters are responsible, a monster hunter named Erica Slaughter arrives to figure out what is happening and how she can stop the murders. With her iconic bandana and monster-hunting tools and blades, Slaughter tries to slay the deadly foes while readers learn more about her past. The book's spinoff, House of Slaughter, was also a major seller for BOOM! Studios, too, moving more than half a million copies of issue one.
Deadline reports, as part of a new overall deal with Netflix, that Dark and 1899 creators Baran Odar and Jantje Friese will adapt Something is Killing the Children for the streamer. Given the pair's experience in the science fiction-tinged horror genre, they are perfect choices to bring the comic to life on the small screen. Initially, The Haunting of Hill House's Mike Flanagan was set to adapt SiKTC, but the project fell through. Now with the show back on track, comic fans should be incredibly excited. Tynion and Dell'Edera - who are executive producing the series alongside BOOM! 's Stephen Christy and Ross Richie - both offered praise for the new creative minds behind the show.
"Bo and Jante have spent the last few years making some of the best genre television in the world," said Something is Killing the Children co-creator James Tynion IV. "I couldn't be more thrilled that they're working to bring Erica Slaughter to life."
"I cannot imagine anyone more exciting than Baran Odar and Jantje Friese," said Dell'Edera. "Their storytelling, direction, combined with Something is Killing the Children... wow! I can't wait to meet their version of Erica."
The announcement has led to a significant uptick in sales of Something is Killing the Children back issues, as copies are selling at a significantly higher rate than they previously had. However, issues of the popular series are still currently available on CaptCan Comics now! New readers can also check out Something is Killing the Children in collected editions, as trade paperbacks and hardcover versions of the series can also be purchased on the site. Keep checking CaptCan Comics, as we will update our inventory when more issues arrive.
Has Netflix found its next Stranger Things? Time will tell, but Something is Killing The Children getting a live-action adaptation on Netflix is wicked news, as the comic is one of the best ongoing books out right now. Moreover, the property is in excellent hands with the folks behind Dark spearheading the show.
