Spider-Boy's Origin: Unveiling the Sidekick's Hidden Past!

May 18th 2023

The introduction of Spider-Boy in Dan Slott and Mark Bagley’s Spider-Man series turned out to be one of the biggest and most-sought out comic book releases of 2023. The issue sold out almost immediately with multiple second printings, quickly becoming a coveted comic for collectors. Spider-Man #7 debuted Peter Parker’s sidekick, Spider-Boy, from Earth-616. He returned to the timeline following Shathra’s defeat after being restored to his universe alongside other heroes the villain sacrificed. However, the hero, whose real name was revealed to be Bailey, wasn’t remembered by Peter or anyone else in his world despite his claims of having a shared history with them, as Spider-Boy’s entire history was somehow erased from time.

Readers looking to learn more about Spider-Boy won’t have to wait long to get the truth behind his origin. Marvel Comics shared Edge of Spider-Verse #3 by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos will reveal his true origin and connection with Spider-Man. Slott told Marvel.com what’s coming soon for Spider-Boy, saying, “He's got strange new spider-powers, secret ties to dark corners of Spider-Man lore, and a story that's all his own... that is right about to begin!”

The issue will also feature the return of Miles Morales’ future sister Spider-Smasher. Check out the full text solicit for the issue below:

After her hit debut in MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN, Miles’ sister Billie Morales’s alter ego is still needed in the Empire of the Spider! • Plus, the origin of the secret Spider-Character who debuted in SPIDER-MAN #7 is told here!

Edge of Spider-Verse #3 will feature several covers, including a main Spider-Smasher cover from artist Patrick Brown. A 1:25 variant from Rickie Yagawa features Billie Morales teaming up with Miles will be available at CaptCan Comics upon release! In addition, Spider-Boy will be featured in multiple covers, as JeeHyung Lee draws an explosive cover showcasing the web-slinger in action.

Humberto Ramos’ variant also offers a look at Spider-Boy, as the hero can be seen swinging around the New York skyline. Ramos’ cover will also be available as a 1:100 virgin variant. Additionally, Mark Bagley is doing a 1:200 incentive variant which hasn’t yet been revealed - but considering he co-created Spider-Boy alongside Dan Slott, the new character may also star on that cover as well. These incentives will also be available at CaptCan Comics upon release!

Marvel Comics is looking to prove Spider-Boy isn’t a flash in the pan and has staying power in the comics. After the major sales success of his debut issue, Edge of Spider-Verse #3 will be a can’t-miss issue for readers wanting to learn how Spider-Boy was erased from time. Readers can preorder Edge of Spider-Verse #3 by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos on CaptCan Comics now, with the issue arriving on June 21st. For those who missed out on Spider-Boy’s first appearance, one way to ensure you don’t miss out on his origin book is to order before Final Order Cutoff by the week’s end!
