TMNT Relaunch: Jason Aaron Leads New IDW Series!

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are getting a new creative team, with superstar Thor writer Jason Aaron leading the relaunch of the iconic franchise for IDW Comics. This week, ComicBook.com revealed Aaron would take over the reins of the Turtles in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Alpha #1 one-shot. After that, he will team up with four of the most talented comic artists in the industry for a four-part series starring each member of the primary TMNT cast.
From their dark beginnings at Mirage Comics to becoming household names due to live-action and animated adaptations, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remain one of the most popular comic book properties today. So, it makes sense that IDW Publishing would line up a big-name writer for their latest series relaunch. After Aaron makes his debut in the Alpha issue, his time with the Turtles begins with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 with Joelle Jones. Issue two will see Aaron work alongside Rafael Albuquerque. Issue three is with Cliff Chiang. Lastly, the artist for issue four is Chris Burnham. Aaron said in the Facebook post announcing the artists, “That’s a top-tier team if there ever was one. Swinging for the fences on this one.” Check out the four covers below, which feature the different Turtles.
While details for the series are still being kept under wraps, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Alpha #1 from Aaron will arrive at CaptCan Comics on June 19, 2024.
For fans of the current series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #150 will make the last issue of Sophie Campbell’s excellent run on the Turtles. Her final issue will be with Vincenzo Federici, Fero Pe, Dan Duncan, and Ronda Pattison, finishing off her current time-traveling arc. Kevin Eastman told CBR.com he was happy with Campbell’s time on the book.
"Passing the baton off to Sophie Campbell for the following 50 fantastic issues solidified this TMNT foundation as the place where anything is, was, and has been possible." Eastman added, "We may see a ‘conclusion,’ after 40 years of adventures, we won't see an end."
