Vampirella vs. Superpowers: Crime Noir with a Time-Travel Twist!

Dynamite is taking Vampirella into a retro world of superheroes, as the titular character and her sidekick Dyna Might find themselves in the 1940s, fighting crime and solving a murder mystery in the just-released Vampirella vs. The Superpowers. Fans of the character are getting a new kind of Vampirella story in a time-traveling adventure for the ages.

Vampirella comes from the minds of Forrest J. Ackerman, Trina Robbins, Frank Frazzetta, and Tom Sutton, first appearing in Vampirella #1 from Warren Publishing. Eventually, the stunning immortal vampire would be acquired by Dynamite Comics, becoming one of the prominent faces of the franchise, appearing in numerous series, crossovers, and adventures set in the Dynamite Universe. In addition, talented creators have tackled the character in ongoing books, one-shots, and covers, including Christopher Priest, Kurt Busiek, Gail Simone, Mark Millar, Mark Texeira, and Mike Mignola.

In Vampirella vs. Superpowers by Dan Abnett and Pasquale Qualano, Vampirella and her new sidekick, Dyna-Might (a hilarious nod to the publisher), arrive in 1940s Los Angeles. However, while other superhero-focused Vampirella stories have focused on more cosmic and supernatural surroundings, the new miniseries will be a crime noir-inspired romp, which is more Batman than Superman, as Vampirella battles street-level threats. Abnett said in a press release that the book is “L.A. Confidential with superpowers.”

It's full-throttle throwback action, courtesy of superstar writer Dan Abnett (Avengers, Warhammer) and red-hot artist Pasquale Qualano (DC Vs. Vampires)! Vampirella and her trusty sidekick Dyna Might have become superheroes, and are assigned to save a world that looks strangely similar to 1940s Earth, rife with crime and corruption, and two-fisted superheroes who don't take kindly to meddling from interdimensional vampire aliens! Can Vampirella survive an onslaught of conflict from villains and heroes alike, all while solving a murder mystery and keeping her precocious sidekick alive?

As is tradition with Dynamite Comics, Vampirella vs. The Superpowers #1 features many variants, with the debut issue launching with more than 20 new covers. The main cover is from Maika Sozo, featuring Vampirella striking a pose in front of a red background. Lerix Li, Jung-Geun Yoon, Joseph Michael Lisner, and Rebeca Puebla also draw standard variants for the issue. Additionally, a cosplay variant will be available, as well as a blank variant.

The incentive variants for the issue are color, black and white, and line variants of the main covers. With so many different versions of the main covers and variants, readers will have plenty of choices when it comes to ordering which one they would like! Don’t forget to order Vampirella vs. The Superpowers #1 at CaptCan Comics today! Issue one is out now!
