Who we are

What we collect

  • Account and contact details: your name, email, phone number and addresses.
  • Order details: what you buy, what is in your Hold Box, your wishlist and your CaptCan Cash balance.
  • Payment details: handled by our payment processors. We don't see or store your full card number.
  • Messages: emails, calls, chats and anything else you send us.
  • Selling to us: if you sell or consign books, the details we need to pay you.
  • Site activity: IP address, browser, pages viewed, how you move through the site, and cookies.

Why we collect it

To fill and ship your orders, run your Hold Box and rewards, answer your questions, prevent fraud, keep the tax and business records the law requires, and improve the site.

Marketing emails

We send marketing emails only if you signed up, or as Canada's anti-spam law allows after a purchase. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and we act on it within 10 business days.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with companies that help us run the store, and only what they need:

  • Our store platform and payment processors
  • Shipping carriers
  • Customer service and email tools
  • Rewards and wishlist apps
  • Analytics and advertising services

Some of these companies store data outside Canada, mainly in the United States, where it is subject to local law.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a site saves in your browser. We use four kinds:

  • Essential: keep your cart, checkout and login working. These are always on.
  • Functional: remember things like your wishlist, rewards, search and chat.
  • Analytics: show us how visitors use the site, which can include recordings of how pages are used, so we can improve it.
  • Marketing: measure our ads and emails and show our ads on other sites.

Visitors in Canada and Europe are asked to accept or decline analytics and marketing cookies when they first visit. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The store still works with only essential cookies, though some features may not.

How long we keep it

We keep order records for as long as tax law requires, generally six years. We keep account details while your account is open. You can ask us to close your account at any time.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, and access is limited to staff who need it. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach creates a real risk of harm to you, we will tell you and report it as the law requires.

Your choices

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, withdraw consent to marketing, or have it deleted where we aren't required to keep it. Contact our Privacy Officer and we will answer within 30 days.

If you aren't satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Quebec residents can contact the Commission d'accès à l'information.

Changes

We post changes on this page with the date they take effect.
