  The narrator tells how Astrild Storm-Daughter tried to protect her home planet of Varidian from Starro the Conqueror, but in drawing on her people’s lifeforces she inadvertently caused their deaths. Seeing no way to avenge her people, Astrild submitted herself to Starro’s superior power.

  Astrild meets with the High Vanguard to discuss their target, Vril Dox.

  The narrator tells how Starro the Conqueror first found Smite while the general was stalemated in combat with the Sodality of Virtue. Starro forced Smite to ally with his enemies against him, and slowly proved his superior strength to even their combined forces, earning himself Smite as a disciple.

  The narrator finishes her story by telling how a Starro motherstar once took the planet Hatorei, but because of the natives’ complete psychic connection, Cobi, with the combined will of his entire people, was able to overcome the control of the newly hatched replacement motherstar, fuse with her, and grow up to become Starro the Conqueror.
