  Ted, editor of the college newspaper, recruits Ruth to tutor coal miner-war veteran-student Hank so he can continue to play football for the school. Hank passes his exam but quits the team: he and Ruth fell in love and got married. The newlyweds have other interests now, such as writing a best-selling historical novel.
