  A large crowd gathers where a man stands on a ledge of the Fremont Building, one hundred feet above, threatening to jump. He does, and as he falls, he thinks back to earlier in the day when his boss tells him that he s being laid off. As he gets ready to board a bus for home, he sees a woman drop her purse and attempts to return it. She accuses him of trying to steal it. Scared, he flees and heads for the ledge of the building, and jumps, but is saved by a fireman's net. His boss witnesses the scene and hires him back.

  Dr. Brown muses over all the children he has brought into the world whose parents could not afford to pay medical expense costs. Then he begins getting emergency calls and sets out to answer them, but a blinding snowstorm results in his car getting stuck. His first call delays him from attending to a second call that results in the death of the doctor's daughter and her baby.
