Black Panther: T'Challa Fights as Fugitive King

Black Panther’s new ongoing series will shift the status quo for the hero, as T’Challa finds himself in Wakanda, but as a fugitive, not a king.
Following the conclusion of John Ridley, German Peralta, and Juann Cabal’s run on Black Panther, the hero found himself an enemy of the Avengers and his own nation after losing their trust following his involvement with a group of sleeper agents across Wakanda. In the present-day timeline, T’Challa has rebuilt his relationship with the Avengers, joining Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the latest iteration of the superteam in Jed MacKay and C.F. Villa’s “Avengers.” However, a new series will show his relationship with his home hasn’t been repaired and will find Black Panther in one of his most difficult positions yet.
Eve. L Ewing, Chad Allen, Craig Yeung, and Jesus Aburtov are the creative team behind the new “Black Panther” #1. The new ongoing series will see T’Challa operate in Wakanda, despite being an enemy of the state. But, in his role as the Black Panther, the hero believes he’s a needed presence and will lurk in the shadows to protect his people and home, even without their blessing.
Black Panther’s new series includes a new redesign for the hero’s costume, new villains, and several new variant covers. Skottie Young’s Baby variant cover features T’Challa perched on a power line pole in his new costume. Rahzzah draws a gorgeous cover featuring Black Panther’s iconic costume.
Mr. Garcin’s variant brings together the history of Black Panther into one incredible image. Sanford Greene continues his Howard the Duck series with a variant featuring T’Challa and the pint-sized hero. Chris Allen’s Stormbreaker variant features the Black Panther battling alongside some classic Avengers. Meanwhile, Elena Casagrande’s “Women of Marvel” variant spotlights Shuri.
The incentive ratio covers include a 1:10 variant from Allen featuring a look at Black Panther’s new costume design. Mateus Mahanini’s 1:25 variant cover showcases T’Challa in action before a fiery backdrop. Lastly, Steve Rude’s 1:50 “Hidden Gem” variant features the hero’s more classic look in a fight with one of his greatest villains, Ulysses Klaue.
